Dr. Hoda Hatoum is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Affiliated Assistant Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Michigan Technological University. She earned her PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University and a BE in Mechanical Engineering from The American University of Beirut.
- Education: PhD, MS (OSU); BE (AUB)
- Postdoctoral Training: Ohio State University, Georgia Institute of Technology
Dr. Hatoum leads the Biofluids Laboratory, focusing on cardiovascular biomechanics and biofluids. Her research spans:
- Patient-specific cardiovascular modeling and in-vitro testing
- Prosthetic heart valve engineering (surgical/transcatheter)
- Blood flow turbulence and blood damage analysis
- Impact of arrhythmias on cardiovascular flows
- Thrombosis prediction in structural heart interventions
Her 15 most recent publications (2020–2025) employ computational fluid dynamics, machine learning, and patient-specific modeling to address clinical challenges in aortic/mitral valve replacement, Kawasaki Disease, and left atrial appendage occlusion. Key keywords: Biomedical Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Thrombosis, Structural Heart Disease.
