Hashrul Zainul Rashid is an Adjunct Clinical Senior Fellow at the Victorian Heart Institute (VHI), part of Monash University. His academic role focuses on cardiovascular research and clinical practice, particularly in structural heart disease and transcatheter valve therapies. He holds a MBBS (Hons) from Monash University (2011).
His research interests center on leaflet thrombosis following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), with a focus on diagnostic imaging, biomarkers, and prosthesis design. He has led multiple projects investigating thrombosis biomarkers, prosthesis geometry, and CT imaging techniques for early detection of complications post-TAVR.
Rashid's recent publications emphasize the role of CT imaging in detecting subclinical leaflet thrombosis and optimizing TAVR outcomes. His work bridges clinical practice and biomedical engineering, addressing challenges in valve dysfunction and hemodynamic deterioration.
- ACC Young Investigator Award (2021)
- AHA Early Career Investigator Prize (2021)
- ANZET Best Interventional Imaging Prize (2021)
- ANZET Early Career Research Award (2020)
- CPMEC Australian Junior Doctor of the Year Finalist (2013)
In grants and advising, Rashid has secured funding from the National Heart Foundation of Australia and collaborates with institutions globally. He oversees projects such as the "Investigating the role of thrombosis biomarkers and prostheses geometry" (2020–2022) and the "Advanced Structural Heart Clinical and Research Fellowship" (2022). His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Rashid’s research is conducted through the Victorian Heart Institute, collaborating with teams at Guy's & St Thomas Hospital and others. His lab focuses on translational cardiovascular research, integrating clinical data with advanced imaging and biomarker analysis.
