Hisami Shimba (born in Shizuoka, Japan) is a Lecturer in Japanese Language at the East Asian Studies Department, Institute of Asian and African Studies, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. She has held similar roles at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (2009-2015), the University of Bonn (2019-2021), and Heidelberg University (2022). Her career spans international engagements with the Japan Foundation, including advisory and teaching roles in Australia (1998-1999), Ireland (2005-2007), and Germany (2015-2018).
- Studied psychology and English at Shizuoka University (1979-1984)
- M.Ed. in Teaching English as a Second Language, Boston University (1988-1989)
- M.Ed. in Language Acquisition, Harvard University (1989-1990)
Her research focuses on modern language pedagogy, integrating machine translation tools and online learning platforms into Japanese language education. She has developed teaching resources like the official Irish leaving certificate textbook Nihongo Kantan (2007) and led teacher training programs internationally.
