Hiroko Uno is a Lecturer in Japanese at the School of Modern Languages, Cardiff University. She also teaches at the University of Bristol and works as a GCSE/A-Level Japanese examiner. Her career spans institutions in Ireland (University of Limerick) and the UK, with expertise in Japanese language pedagogy and traditional arts.
Her research focuses on language education, particularly innovative methods for beginner Japanese learners. The 2017 publication on 'personalised writing' highlights her interest in adapting writing activities to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
In addition to her academic work, Hiroko Uno holds a first-grade teacher’s (shihan) license in Japanese calligraphy and traditional arts. She has contributed to language initiatives such as Ireland's Post-Primary language program and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
