Dr. Hiloko Kato is a Senior Researcher and Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Zurich's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, affiliated with the Department of German Studies and the GameLab Zurich. She holds visiting lecturer positions at the University of Zurich, University of Basel, and Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in Game Design. Since August 2022, she has chaired the Digital Society Initiative (DSI) Committee Gaming.
- Research Focus: Game studies, pragmatic linguistics, human-nonhuman interaction, and digital agency using fine-grained ethnomethodological and conversation analytic approaches with video-recorded data.
- Projects: SNF Sinergia project 'Confoederatio Ludens – Swiss Game History, Play and Game Design 1968-2000' and MEEET Lab (Media Existential Encounters and Evolving Technology Lab) at DSI & UB.
- Affiliations: Chair of Prof. Heiko Hausendorf in German Linguistics at the University of Zurich; GameLab Zurich; Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in Game Design.
