Hilary Vidair is an Associate Professor and Program Director in the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at Long Island University (LIU) Post, within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She is a licensed psychologist in New York State and maintains a private practice specializing in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral parent training, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for youth and families.

Dr. Vidair’s research centers on improving child and adolescent mental health through better parental engagement in treatment, managing parental psychopathology, and innovating clinician training in evidence-based practices. Her work emphasizes early intervention, particularly for underserved families. She is the Director of LIU Post’s Family Check-In program, a brief, low-cost assessment and referral service for parents of young children (ages 2–8) aimed at early identification of mental health concerns. Her specialties include child anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, parental depression and anxiety, school-based interventions, and doctoral student mentorship.
Her recent publications span topics such as treatment termination in CBT, maternal stress, parental cognitions, and dissemination of evidence-based parenting programs. The research collectively emphasizes family systems, implementation science, and access to care, particularly for vulnerable populations. She frequently publishes in high-impact journals like Journal of Child and Family Studies, Psychotherapy, and Depression and Anxiety.

She currently serves as Membership Issues Coordinator for the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), where she has held numerous leadership roles, including President of the Child and School Related Issues Special Interest Group. She is also co-authoring a book with Oxford University Press titled The Theses and Dissertation Guide for Doctoral Students in Applied Fields of Psychology, Mental Health, and Education.
Her work bridges clinical practice, research, training, and policy, with a strong commitment to improving mental health access and outcomes for children, families, and future clinicians.
