Professor Hilary Carlisle is the Dean of Creative Education at Norwich University of the Arts, where she holds a Professorship in the Department of Textile Design. She earned a practice-led PhD in 2004, focusing on algorithmic design for non-repeating textile patterns. Her research interests include digital textile innovation, pattern theory, and the integration of technology with traditional design practices.
She has organized major symposia such as 'Cowbird Graphics' (2013) and 'Fabricating Technology' (2006), and her work has been exhibited globally, including at the Chelsea College of Art and Design. Her pedagogical focus emphasizes research-driven curricula and bridging theory with practice in design education.
Carlisle is a founding member of the Pattern and Chaos group, fostering collaboration among designers, artists, and educators. Her publications span algorithmic design methodologies, educational strategies, and textile innovation, reflecting a commitment to advancing both creative and technical aspects of textile design.
