Hideki Takahashi is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology of Michigan State University, affiliated with the Molecular Plant Sciences Program and Genetics & Genome Sciences Program. He holds a PhD from Chiba University (1998) and a B.S. from Kyoto University (1990). His career includes prior roles as an Assistant Professor at MSU (2010-16), Adjunct Professor at Yokohama City University (2008-10), and Team Leader at RIKEN Plant Science Center (2000-10).
Dr. Takahashi’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of plant sulfur and nitrogen metabolism, particularly how nutrient signaling pathways regulate root system architecture and metabolic adaptation. His work spans topics such as Sulfur-responsive promoters, peptide signaling pathways, and nutrient transporters, with publications analyzing sulfate transport, nitrogen use efficiency, and stress responses.
His recent articles explore sulfur-nitrogen crosstalk, transporter engineering, and metabolic regulation under nutrient deficiency. A subset of publications also touches on clinical dermatology and lipid metabolism, suggesting interdisciplinary collaborations. He received the 2005 Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists Young Investigator Award and actively recruits graduate students and postdocs to his lab, including Katerina Lay (Genetics Graduate Student), Anne-Sophie Bohrer, and Wei Dong (Postdoctoral Fellows).
