Hi-Sun Kim is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Korean Language Program at Harvard University's Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations. She joined Harvard in 2015 after directing the Korean Language Program at the University of Chicago for over a decade, with additional teaching experience at Northwestern University, University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Ohio State University.
- Ph.D. in Korean Language and Linguistics from University of Hawaii at Manoa
- Research focuses on Korean heritage language learners, language acquisition, and sociopolitical impacts on minority language preservation
- Developer of accelerated Korean language curriculum for heritage learners
- Executive Board member of American Association for Teachers of Korean (2011-2014)
Her academic contributions include designing national standards for Korean language education through ACTFL and developing assessment frameworks for college-level Korean curricula. She has taught second language acquisition courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
