Hewlet G. McFarlane serves as Assistant Vice President for Enrollment, Director of Strategic Programs & Partnerships, and Professor of Neuroscience at Kenyon College. A founding member of the Neuroscience Department, he has held faculty positions since joining Kenyon in 1998 following his Ph.D. from Syracuse University.
Education:
- 1998 — Doctor of Philosophy (Experimental Psychology) from Syracuse University
- 1995 — Master of Science from Syracuse University
- 1991 — Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University
His research centers on brain chemistry-behavior relationships with emphasis on mental illness mechanisms. Key investigations include neurotransmitter system interactions, drug effects on neural pathways, and biochemical correlates of autism, schizophrenia, and depression. Current work focuses on developing mouse models of autism spectrum disorders.

He advises senior honors theses (NEUR 497Y/498Y) and previously completed postdoctoral neuropharmacology training at Case Western Reserve University's Psychiatry Department.
