Prof. Herwig Stibor is a retired Professor of Aquatic Ecology at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU), Germany. He serves as Managing Director of the Department of Biology II and Head of the Limnological Station Seeon. His career includes leadership roles such as Deputy Director (2013–2016) and Chair of Marine Ecosystem Dynamics at the University of Brest, France (2009–2011).
Education:
- 1987–1991: Diploma in Biology (Limnology, Zoology, Organic Chemistry) from Universities of Graz and Kiel
- 1995: Dr. rer. nat. in Limnology (supervised by Prof. Winfried Lampert, Max-Planck-Institute)
- 2003: Habilitation in Ecology & Zoology (mentored by Prof. Sebastian Diehl)
Research Focus: Experimental aquatic ecology, climate change impacts on aquatic systems, and ecosystem dynamics. Active in projects like AQUACOSM (EU), DYNATRAIT (DFG), and CLIMSHIFT (DFG/ANR).
Awards:
- 2016 Otto Hahn Medal from the Max-Planck-Society (1996)
Administration & Labs: Oversees the Seeon Limnological Station and coordinates interdisciplinary research networks. Leads grant initiatives on limnology and marine ecology.
