Hervé Claustre is a Research Director (Full Research Professor) at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), France, affiliated with the Villefranche Oceanography Laboratory at Sorbonne Université. His career spans over three decades in oceanographic research.
- Education: Engineer in Agronomy (1983); Master of Oceanography (1984); PhD in Oceanography (1987); D. Sc. in Oceanography (1995) from University of Paris VI.
A pioneer in optical oceanography and ocean color remote sensing, Claustre focuses on multidisciplinary ocean observation through autonomous platforms like floats and gliders. His work addresses oceanic biogeochemical cycles, phytoplankton dynamics, and marine production-export processes at global scales.

A seasoned oceanographer, he has spent 400+ days at sea and participated in 13 cruises, two as Chief Scientist.
