Herman Van Rompuy is a Visiting Professor at the European Interdisciplinary Studies Department of the College of Europe’s Natolin campus. He previously served as the first full-time President of the European Council from 2009 to 2014, following a distinguished political career in Belgium, including roles as Prime Minister, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and various ministerial positions. He holds a Bachelor’s in Philosophy and a Master’s in Economics from KU Leuven.
- Current Affiliations: Professor at KU Leuven and College of Europe; President of the Administrative Council of the College of Europe (Bruges campus).
His research interests focus on European integration, economic policy, and governance structures within the EU. His career bridges academia and high-level political leadership, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to European studies.
Awarded the title of Count by King Philippe of Belgium in 2015 for his contributions to European unity. Active in both academic and institutional roles, he continues to shape EU-related discourse through teaching and administrative leadership.
