Herbert Ames

Herbert Ames is an Assistant Professor in the H. Ben Taub Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine, with a joint appointment in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences. He is based at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston.

With 26 years of service at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Ames's research focuses on psychological assessment instruments that identify distress, cognitive deficits, and disability appraisals affecting quality of life and adaptation to disability. He leads the 'Improving Care Practices and Outcomes for Spinal Cord Injured Veterans' study.

He holds board certifications in Rehabilitation Psychology & Geropsychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology and in Clinical Neuropsychology from the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology.

His clinical work involves psychological screening and intervention strategies for veterans with spinal cord injuries and geriatric populations.
