Professor Henry Stobart is a leading ethnomusicologist at the Department of Music, Royal Holloway, University of London, where he has worked since 1999. He founded the UK Latin American Music Seminar and served as co-editor of Ethnomusicology Forum (2019-22). His work spans the Bolivian Andes, focusing on music’s intersection with agriculture, social production, and heritage politics.
Research Interests:
- Musical ethnography of Quechua-speaking communities
- Cultural politics of heritage and intellectual property
- Indigenous music video production and media piracy
- Music and environmental sustainability
- Applied ethnomusicology in social development
Scientific Awards:
- ACLS Collaborative Fellowship (2015-16)
Teaching Contributions: Courses include Introduction to World Music, Music of the Andes, and Techniques in Ethnomusicology. He also directs an Andean band and promotes Early Music performance.
