Dr. Henry Redwood is a Lecturer in War Studies at King's College London's Department of War Studies, part of the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. His research examines how communities form through war, focusing on the role of arts, archives, and justice. He joined King's in 2022 after completing an ESRC-funded PhD in War Studies (2017). Current work explores trauma-informed arts in Ukraine and co-produces public exhibitions with practitioners like ArtDot and BlkBrd Collective. He has received grants from ESRC and AHRC, and his publications span journals like International Political Sociology and Millennium, as well as books with Cambridge and Routledge.
Research Interests: At the intersection of international relations, law, arts, and history, Dr. Redwood studies community formation through war, emphasizing archives, aesthetic politics, and spatial governance. Empirical focus includes the Western Balkans, Ukraine, and Rwanda. His work critiques liberal peacebuilding and explores emancipatory alternatives through art and spatial interventions.
Selected Projects: Co-convener of the MA in Strategic Communications, teaches courses on political communications and applied strategic communications. Leads the Art & Conflict Hub and Conflict Records Unit. Active in events like the UK premiere of 'Soldiers of Song' (2024) and the 'Ethics of Representation' panel (2024). Collaborates with institutions like the Conflict, Security & Development Research Group.
Grants & Funding: ESRC and AHRC grants for research on arts in conflict zones. Projects include Manifesta 14 (2022) in Kosovo, exploring spatial and aesthetic statebuilding.
