Henry M Cowles is an Associate Professor of History of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. His research examines how issues of mind and brain have been conceptualized in modern US and British contexts, focusing on psychologists', psychiatrists', and scientists' approaches to choice, authority, spontaneity, and methodology since the 19th century. He holds a PhD from Princeton University (2015), an MA from Princeton (2010), and an AB from Harvard College (2008).
- Research Interests: Scientific medicine, mind/brain sciences, evolutionary theory, experimentation in art/science/medicine, extinction studies, history of philosophy
- Teaching: Courses include 'Minds and Brains in Modern America,' 'History of Addiction,' and 'Medicine and the Human Sciences'
