Henry Farrell is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Agora Institute Professor of International Affairs at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). His research focuses on democracy, technology governance, and international political economy. Previously, he held a professorship in political science and international affairs at George Washington University. Key affiliations include membership in the Council on Foreign Relations and the European Council on Foreign Relations, alongside roles at Stanford Law School’s Center for Internet and Society.
His work critically examines how economic and technological systems shape global power dynamics, notably through publications like Underground Empire (2023) and Of Privacy and Power (2019). He received the Friedrich Schiedel Prize for Politics and Technology (2019) and the Arthur Ross Book Award (2024). His recent research explores AI’s societal implications, weaponized interdependence in geopolitics, and the future of democratic institutions in the digital age.
