Henry Everitt is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, while also serving as the Army's Senior Technologist for Optical Sciences at the Army Research Laboratory in Houston, TX. His research group focuses on experimental molecular physics, terahertz imaging, ultraviolet nanophotonics, and ultrafast spectroscopy of wide bandgap semiconductors through collaborations with Duke faculty and international partners.
- Key research areas include molecular rotational spectroscopy for terahertz sources, coherent imaging techniques for opaque materials, ultraviolet plasmonics with nanostructured metals, and ultrafast carrier dynamics in semiconductors
- His lab houses unique THz beam characterization instruments and tunable sources spanning millimeter to submillimeter wavelengths
- He previously pioneered the first compact tunable terahertz laser with Frank De Lucia, enabling remote gas cloud identification at 1 km distance
Recent publications highlight advancements in aluminum nanocrystal oxidation mechanisms, thermal noise reduction in infrared windows, and quantum cascade laser-pumped molecular THz systems. His work has been recognized with the 2016 AAAS Fellowship, and he maintains active collaborations across Duke's Physics, Chemistry, and ECE departments.
