Henrik Svedäng is an Associate Professor affiliated with Stockholm University's Baltic Sea Centre and serves as a Scientific Coordinator at the Swedish Institute for the Marine Environment (SIME) since 2010. He earned his PhD in Limnology from Uppsala University in 1991 and has worked as a fisheries scientist since 1992, including positions at the Coastal Laboratory in Öregrund and the Institute of Marine Research in Lysekil under the Swedish Board of Fisheries (later integrated into the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences).
Research Interests: Henrik investigates fish behavioural ecology, focusing on migration effects, population connectivity, and historical fisheries dynamics. Key species include Atlantic cod and European eel, with emphasis on Baltic Sea ecosystems. His interdisciplinary work integrates ecology, genetics, and socio-economics to advance ecosystem-based fisheries management.
Active Projects:
- BalticCAT: Developing food-web models to assess cumulative anthropogenic impacts on the Baltic Sea.
- Herring spawning ecology: Studying homing behavior and larval distribution in Swedish coastal waters.
- Baltic cod metabolism: Analyzing historical changes in feeding patterns and growth.
- Pilot Stockholm Archipelago: Designing regional marine management frameworks to meet environmental goals.
