معرفی
Henrik Semb is a Professor in Human Stem Cell Biology and Director of the Institute for Translational Stem Cell Research (ITS) at Helmholtz Munich (formerly University of Copenhagen, 2011–2022). His work bridges fundamental research in organogenesis with translational applications for diabetes therapy.
- Current affiliations: Helmholtz Munich (Institute for Translational Stem Cell Research)
- Past affiliations: University of Copenhagen (DanStem, Executive Director/Group Leader)
Research Focus
Semb’s lab investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms of organogenesis, particularly how mechanosignaling via integrins regulates pancreatic progenitor cell fate decisions. He leads the ISLET project, a pan-European initiative to develop human pluripotent stem cell-based cell therapies for Type 1 Diabetes, building on his earlier success in directing stem cells to produce beta cells during the EU-funded HUMEN project.
Scientific Trends
His recent publications emphasize methodological advancements in stem cell biology, including protocols for 3D culture systems and flow cytometry analysis of pancreatic development. These align with his broader focus on translational stem cell research and beta cell biology.
Grants & Collaborations
His work has been funded by the EU, NIH, Swedish and Danish Foundations for Strategic Research, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and EMBO. The ISLET project unites seven institutions to translate discoveries into clinical trials by 2025.
