Henriette Aksnes is a Researcher at the Department of Biomedicine, University of Bergen (UiB), and a Group Leader for MemBrain. She serves as Scientific Director for light microscopy at the Molecular Imaging Center (MIC) and contributes to Systems Biology and Translational Cell Signaling research. Her expertise bridges Molecular Cell Biology and Molecular Neuroscience (MSc, PhD).
- Research Focus: Protein N-terminal acetylation (NAT enzymes) in neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Parkinson’s) and actin cytoskeleton regulation in cancer metastasis.
- Key Projects: Mechanistic studies of NAA60 in brain calcification, NAA80’s role in Golgi integrity, and collaborations with UCL neurologists.
Scientific Awards: Starting Grant (Trond Mohn Foundation), Meltzer Award for Young Researchers, Falch Junior Award, ZONA Award for Best PhD 2014, and Best Paper of the Year (2018).
Student Supervision: Mentored over 20 MSc/PhD candidates, including Anton R. Melbye, Alessia Caiella, and Åse K. Bekkelund. Co-hosted the 2022 EMBO conference on Protein Termini.
Outreach: Featured in FEBS’ Women in Science eBook, interviewed in NatureVolve and Incyte blog, and contributed to popular science articles on neurodegeneration and cancer cell dynamics.
