Bengt Erik Haug is a Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Bergen. His research bridges chemistry and biology, focusing on medicinal chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, and peptidomimetics for drug discovery. He leads the Norwegian Open Laboratory for High-Throughput Experimentation and Scale-up (NorHTE) and established the Peptide Synthesis Laboratory at UiB. His group has contributed to antibiotic development, cancer therapy (e.g., oncolytic peptides like LTX-315), and molecular imaging probes.
- Education & Mentorship: Supervised doctoral candidates including Adnan Budnjo (2014), Tahir Farooq (2012), and Markus Baumann (2016).
- Research Themes: Antimicrobial peptides, proteinase inhibition, kinase targeting, and synthesis of marine natural product derivatives.
- Grants: Funded by the Research Council of Norway (project 224790) for marine natural product-based drug leads.
- Leadership: Director of NorHTE and founder of the Peptide Synthesis Laboratory.
