Henning Stahlberg is a Professor of Physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), heading the Laboratory of Biological Microscopy (LBEM). He also holds an affiliation with the University of Lausanne (UNIL) through the Department of Fundamental Microbiology (DMF). Previously, he served as Professor of Structural Biology at the Biozentrum from 2009 to 2020, leading the Center for Cellular Imaging and Nano Analytics (C-CINA).
Education: PhD in Physics from EPFL (1997), postdoctoral research at Biozentrum, and further research at the University of California.
Research focuses on neurodegeneration mechanisms, membrane proteins, and Parkinson’s disease-related proteins using advanced imaging techniques like cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, and electron tomography. He develops novel technologies in electron microscopy hardware, sample preparation, and data analysis.
Recent projects include an ERC Synergy Grant (4D-BioSTEM) for 4D-STEM ptychography and cryo-ET advancements, leveraging collaborations with institutions like ER-C Jülich and LMU Munich.
Awards include the ERC Synergy Grant for pioneering imaging methodologies.
Labs/Teams: LBEM collaborates with UNIL and EPFL, focusing on interdisciplinary research in microscopy and neurobiology.
