Hennig Engelke is a Professor of Art History at the University of Art and Design Linz since 2024. Previously, he served as a Visiting Professor there from 2023 to 2024 and was part of the DFG Heisenberg Project "Transdisciplinary Networks of Media Knowledge" at Philipps University Marburg (2018–2023).

His publications include monographs on American experimental film (2018) and documentary photography (2007), alongside guest-edited journal issues. Current projects address youth filmmaking in institutional settings and the historiography of experimental cinema.
