Dr. Henk Rosendal serves as an Applied Research Professor of Community Care at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, leading the Community Care research group within the Research Centre Innovations in Care.
His research examines how environmental factors influence health outcomes, emphasizing a holistic approach that considers education, income, housing, culture, lifestyle and social environment as key determinants. His work focuses on neighborhood-level health interventions with particular attention to:
- Built environment characteristics (safety, space, greenery)
- Technology applications for promoting healthy behaviors
- Integrated care models connecting healthcare and community services
- District nursing practices and transmural care approaches
Professor Rosendal collaborates extensively with healthcare professionals including district nurses, general practitioners, therapists, social workers, and architects to develop community-based health solutions. His research group partners with municipalities, housing associations, educational institutions, and community organizations to address concrete neighborhood health challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
He actively supervises bachelor's and master's students in their research projects, providing both methodological and content expertise. His teaching focuses on community care principles, integrated care systems, and healthcare financing models. He is frequently invited to speak on healthcare innovations and trends, emphasizing personalized community-based care as reflected in his statement: 'Rather than an anonymous phone number of a home care organisation, there's Mary, the district nurse.'
