Hengye Man is a Professor of Biology at Boston University, specializing in neurodevelopmental processes and neurological disorders. His laboratory investigates fundamental mechanisms of brain development and function.
Research focuses on:
- AMPA receptor trafficking and ubiquitin-mediated degradation pathways
- Homeostatic synaptic plasticity mechanisms and miR-124 regulation
- Neurobiology of autism spectrum disorders (KIAA2022/KIDLIA gene)
- Neuronal morphogenesis and dendritic arborization
- Alzheimer's disease mechanisms involving synaptic plasticity
Dr. Man's publications in high-impact journals demonstrate how β-amyloid disrupts synaptic scaling in Alzheimer's models and how autism-related genes like KIAA2022 regulate neurite outgrowth. He developed knockout mouse models that recapitulate human autism phenotypes.
He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses including Developmental Neurobiology and Neurobiology of Synapses. The lab employs diverse techniques including live imaging, electrophysiology, and animal behavior tests to study neural development and disease mechanisms.
