London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)معرفی
Hendrik Wolff serves as Professor of Environmental Economics in the Department of Geography and Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he also holds editorial leadership as co-editor of the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and member of the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (JAERE) editorial council.
Education:
- Bachelor's and Master's in Agricultural Engineering from Universities of Göttingen and Bonn
- MS and PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from University of California, Berkeley (NSF grant recipient)
His research centers on environmental economics at the intersection of transportation, energy, and air pollution, with core expertise in economic causes/consequences of air pollution, energy conservation policy impacts, cost-benefit analysis of clean air policies, climate-price-wage-quality of life interactions, "value of time" economics, and Daylight Saving Time economic analysis. He pioneered new econometric estimators for large supply-demand systems applied in agriculture and energy sectors, conducting field research across Ecuador, Germany, Mexico, Australia, Bangladesh, Ghana, England, Chile and the United States.
Recent publications (2010-2021) reveal consistent methodological rigor in policy evaluation, particularly low-emission zone effectiveness, payment for ecosystem services, and energy conservation impacts. His work demonstrates strong cross-national applicability (UK, Germany, Ecuador, US) and bridges theoretical econometrics with real-world environmental challenges through advanced spatial analysis and causal inference techniques.
Scientific Awards and Honors:
- 2009 Ralph C d’Arge and Allen V. Kneese Award for Outstanding Publication
- Fleishhacker Foundation and UC Berkeley Financial Award (2004-2005)
- German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholarship (2002-2003)
- Most Original Masters Thesis of 1999, Göttingen University
Wolff has chaired numerous PhD and Honors students with exceptional placement outcomes, secured major external funding from NSF, CSSS, and Royalty Research Fund, and provided high-impact consultancy for EU Commission, World Bank, United Nations, EPA, Department of Energy, and Department of Transportation. His research directly influenced UN and World Bank policy revisions to Human Development Index and Ease of Doing Business metrics.
He directs SelfDrivingCities.com, a multidisciplinary research lab connecting academia, government, and industry to advance sustainable urban mobility solutions through data-driven policy innovation and cross-sector collaboration.
