Hendrik Vollmer is a Senior Lecturer (Privatdozent) in Sociology at Universität Bielefeld, affiliated with the Faculty of Sociology. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Universität Bielefeld (2002) and completed his Habilitation in Sociology in 2011. Since 1999, he has been a research associate at the Faculty of Sociology. His editorial roles include managing editor of the Zeitschrift für Soziologie since 2008, becoming the leading editor in 2012.
His research focuses on sociology of disruption, disaster, and social change; everyday interaction dynamics; organizational calculation practices; and the role of numerical signs in socio-economic contexts. Key contributions include analyzing how disruptions shape cooperative behaviors, exploring the game-like structures of daily interactions, and examining accounting practices across organizations.
Vollmer’s work bridges theoretical sociology with empirical studies, addressing topics like institutional adaptation to crises, numerical governance in organizations, and the interplay between policy discourse and administrative realities. His publications span monographs, journal articles, and critical analyses of quantitative methods in sociological inquiry.
