Hendel Almetus is an Assistant Professor of Practice at the Conservatory of Music, University of the Pacific, and founder/director of the Pacific Community Music School (PCMS), a pre-college program serving the Stockton community. He holds a PhD from UC Davis, an MA from the Eastman School of Music, and a BM from Houston Christian University. Prior to Pacific, he taught at UC Davis.
His compositions emphasize vivid virtuosity and meditative depth, with works performed internationally. Notable commissions include pieces for Earplay New Chamber Music, The Empyrean Ensemble, and the Kodachrome Saxophone Quartet. His 'Rencontre' (from Rêves Transcendants) and 'Luminous' have received radio and conference features. Residence engagements include the BAU Institute (France), Freie Universität Berlin, and the Wellesley Composers Conference. He is a Margaret Mondavi Fellow.
Research interests span contemporary composition techniques, intercultural musical fusion, and community engagement through music education. His work explores the intersection of acoustic and electronic mediums, with a focus on lyrical expression and structural innovation.
