Helmut Simonis is a Senior Research Fellow at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics (affiliated with University College Cork). He has over 30 years of experience in Constraint Programming, having co-developed the CHIP system at ECRC Munich (1986-1990) and served as co-founder/technical director at Cosytec SA (1990-2000). His career includes roles at Imperial College London and startups like Parc Technologies Ltd, with a focus on industrial optimization applications.

He received two Best Application Paper Awards (2009, 2013) at PPoCP conferences and holds four patents in network optimization. Simonis served as President of the Association for Constraint Programming (2012-2013) and has been part of the Cork Constraint Computation Centre (4C) since 2008.
