Helle Porsdam is a Professor of Law and Humanities at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of Law (CIS) within the Faculty of Law at the University of Copenhagen. She also holds a teaching position at the SAXO-Institute - Archaeology, Ethnology, Greek & Latin, History under the Faculty of Humanities. Additionally, she serves as the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Rights, emphasizing the intersection of law, culture, and human rights.
Her research focuses on cultural human rights, particularly the right to science as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. She has received significant grants, including a Carlsberg Foundation 'Semper Ardens' Monograph Grant for her work on scientific freedom and a Velux Foundation grant for the project The Past's Future.
Key publications include Science as a Cultural Right (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2022), The Right to Science: Then and Now (Cambridge University Press, 2021), and The Transforming Power of Cultural Rights: A Promising Law and Humanities Approach (Cambridge University Press, 2019). Her collaborations include work with institutions such as Harvard Law School, Wolfson College (University of Cambridge), and the University of Munich.
