Dr. Heli Gittins is a Lecturer at Bangor University's School of Environmental and Natural Sciences, specializing in the intersection of natural environments, human health, and greenspace access. She directs the MSc in Environmental and Business Management and teaches modules like Social Issues in Forest Management and Strategic Environmental Management. Her research focuses on nature-based interventions' impacts on wellbeing, including long-term effects and access barriers, particularly through projects like Actif Woods Wales. She holds a cross-disciplinary PhD involving natural sciences and psychology, collaborating with the Woodland Trust.
Dr. Gittins has published extensively on topics such as agroforestry, greenspace utilization, and mental wellbeing, with works appearing in journals like British Food Journal and Wellbeing, Space & Society. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and affiliated with the Royal Geography Society. Her professional experience includes knowledge transfer projects on sustainable business and climate change adaptation.
Teaching and Research Interests:
Environmental management, qualitative social research methods, woodland activity programs, public health policy, and interdisciplinary methodologies. Active in conferences such as the RGS-IBG and Public Health Wales Annual Conference.
