Dr Helena Lee is an Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at the University of Southampton and Southampton General Hospital. She specializes in neuro-ophthalmology, paediatrics, and strabismus, with an international reputation in infantile nystagmus, pediatric retinal development, and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Her current research focuses on the OLIVIA study, investigating oral levodopa's role in improving visual development in infants and young children with albinism, supported by a £1.4M MRC grant.
Research Interests: Albinism, Nystagmus, Optical Coherence Tomography, Retinal Development, and Pediatric Ophthalmology. Her work integrates clinical practice with translational research, particularly in understanding retinal plasticity and developing therapeutic interventions for visual disorders.
Teaching & Leadership: Head of Field for Ophthalmology Year 3 BM projects and Chair of the Wessex Regional Postgraduate Ophthalmology Teaching Programme. Supervises PhD students in infection, inflammation, and immunology within ophthalmology contexts.
