Helena A. Soini is a Research Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Helsinki, Finland. She earned her M.S. in Structural Organic Chemistry from the University of Oulu (1982) and Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Helsinki (1994). Her industry experience includes roles as Research Scientist at Orion Pharmaceutica (1982–1991) and Senior Scientist at Procter & Gamble (1994–2001).
Her research specializes in analytical methodologies, with emphases on:
- Separation science (chromatography, capillary electrophoresis)
- Mass spectrometry for biomedical diagnostics
- Chiral compound analysis
- Protein and carbohydrate characterization
- Olfactory chemical signaling mechanisms
At the IU Institute for Pheromone Research, she collaborates with interdisciplinary teams across biology, behavioral science, and medicine. She also teaches a graduate course in Modern Carbohydrate Analysis Methods at the University of Helsinki.
She has authored 50 peer-reviewed publications and holds two US patents.
