Helen Turner

Helen Turner is the Associate Head of Art at York St John University's School of the Arts. Her work focuses on Public Art, Textiles, and participatory projects emphasizing community engagement and feminist discourse. She has led Arts and Health initiatives with vulnerable populations including mental health service users, care leavers, and elderly patients. Turner is also a Natural Voice Practitioner and performs in the folk duo 'Union Jill', exploring experimental pedagogy and audience participation dynamics.

• Key projects include the 'Constantine Procession' (2007) and 'What Shall I Wear' (2001-2003) residency with St. Basil’s Resettlement Centre.
• Commissioned works include installations for healthcare facilities and public spaces such as the 'Secret Tea Party' (2012) and 'College Banner' (2001).

Her research examines artefact creation through participatory performance, with publications analyzing patient experiences in healthcare art interventions. Turner has delivered workshops in schools and theatres including the REP Birmingham and MAC Birmingham.
