Helen Stuhr-Rommereim is a Lecturer in Slavonic and Russophone Literatures and Cultures at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. She holds a B.A. from Oberlin College, an M.A. in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, she taught at Swarthmore College.
Her research focuses on 19th-century Russian literature and culture, particularly proletarian writers, configurations of the 'masses' in literature and popular theater, and political revolt dynamics preceding the 1905 revolution. She has published in journals like Feminist German Studies, The Russian Review, and Novoe literaturnoe obozrenie, and co-edited a special issue of Russian Literature on 'The Unknown 19th Century.'
Her work has been supported by grants from the Fulbright program, American Councils, and the Kennan Institute. She coordinates 'The Other 19v,' an online reading group exploring minor nineteenth-century Russian authors, and has been an editor at Full Stop magazine since 2013.
