Olga Makarova is a Senior Lecturer in Russian Studies at Queen Mary University of London, specializing in 19th-century Russian cultural history and language pedagogy. She holds a PhD from Queen Mary for her work on publishing magnate Aleksei Suvorin, and is a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy. Her research bridges literary history and gender studies, focusing on Suvorin’s role in shaping Russian public discourse and the societal 'woman question.'
Teaching responsibilities include Russian language courses for heritage speakers and general learners, as well as modules on Russian syntax and professional language skills. She co-convenes the Language Teaching and Scholarship Forum in her department and has designed innovative curricula integrating content-based learning.
