Helen Stolp is a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology at the Royal Veterinary College. Her research focuses on mechanisms of normal and abnormal brain development, particularly neuroinflammation, neurovascular biology, and neurodevelopmental disorders like autism and cerebral palsy. She collaborates with institutions including the University of Oxford and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and leads a multidisciplinary project integrating MRI imaging with neuropathology.
- Bachelor of Science (Honours), University of Tasmania (2001)
- PhD, Department of Pharmacology, University of Melbourne (2006)
Helen’s research spans inflammation-induced neurodevelopmental injury, ZIKA virus effects on neurovascular development, and MRI-based biomarker discovery. Her work bridges cellular microstructure analysis with advanced imaging techniques to explore therapeutic interventions like montelukast.
Recent publications highlight her focus on neonatal brain injury models, neurovascular susceptibility, and sex-specific behavioral outcomes. Collaborations with neuroimaging experts and virologists underscore her interdisciplinary approach.
Helen co-leads the 2nd year of the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine course and heads pharmacology units in graduate programs. She is on the editorial board of Fluids and Barriers in the CNS.
