Professor Helen Steward holds the position of Professor of Philosophy of Mind and Action at the University of Leeds, within the School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science. She serves as Director of Recruitment and Admissions. Her expertise spans free will, action theory, metaphysics of mind, causation, and animality, with recent work on plant agency, determinism, and two-way power theories. She is currently writing a book on causation and has previously authored A Metaphysics for Freedom (OUP), arguing for an incompatibilist view linking determinism with free action across humans and animals.
