Helen Quasnichka is a Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences (HAS). She holds a BSc from the University of Birmingham and a PhD from the University of Bristol, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Her research focuses on extracellular matrix biology and cell adhesion, with an emphasis on chronic inflammatory disorders such as osteoarthritis (OA) and atherosclerosis. Key areas include disease pathogenesis, cell signaling mechanisms, biomarker identification, and tissue-engineered cartilage. She investigates small leucine-rich proteoglycans as potential therapeutic targets and biomarkers for OA and explores biomarkers to assess the quality of tissue-engineered cartilage for OA treatment.
Dr. Quasnichka’s expertise intersects with regenerative medicine, collagen studies, and inflammatory disease mechanisms. Her work aims to bridge basic science and clinical applications in musculoskeletal and vascular health.
