Helen Lambert

Professor Helen Lambert is a Professor of Medical Anthropology at the University of Bristol's Bristol Medical School (PHS). Her research focuses on antibiotic use, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and pandemic responses, with a particular emphasis on healthcare practices in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). She leads interdisciplinary studies on topics such as domestic violence interventions, AMR surveillance, and the social dimensions of antibiotic stewardship.

Her research interests include global health equity, One Health approaches to AMR, and the intersection of cultural practices with healthcare policies. Recent work examines antibiotic prescribing patterns in rural China, Thailand, and India, as well as the impact of pandemic measures on antibiotic usage and public behavior.

Notable contributions include a cluster RCT to reduce antibiotic overuse in rural China, longitudinal AMR studies in England using wastewater surveillance, and mixed-method evaluations of healthcare interventions in conflict zones such as Palestine. Her work often bridges medical anthropology with public health policy, emphasizing actionable solutions for complex health challenges.
