Helen Davies is a Professor at Swansea University's Institute of Structural Materials, leading the Precision Joining Team since 2015. She holds a PhD in titanium alloy fatigue mechanisms sponsored by the Ministry of Defense (1998) and transitioned to academia after a decade in nickel manufacturing industry. Her current research focuses on joining technologies for titanium alloys and nickel superalloys, particularly in collaboration with Rolls-Royce.
Research Interests include:
- Titanium Alloys and Nickel Superalloys
- Grain Boundary Engineering
- Semi-Solid Metal Forming
- Additive Layer Manufacturing
- Metal Fatigue and Crack Initiation
- Failure Analysis in Metallic Components
Scientific Awards:
- Chartered Engineer (2014–Present)
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2017–Present)
Teaching Interests cover Metal Manufacturing, Casting, and Semi-Solid Metal Forming, with modules like EG-091 (Chemistry of Materials) and EG-185 (Materials Practicals). She has supervised PhD programs on topics such as Hot Corrosion-Fatigue in Nickel Superalloys and Effect of Defects on Ti-6Al-4V.
