Helen Bridle is a Professor at Heriot-Watt University's School of Engineering & Physical Sciences and a member of the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics and Bioengineering. She holds a Royal Academy of Engineering/EPSRC Fellowship focused on detecting waterborne pathogens. Previously, she held this fellowship at the University of Edinburgh and worked as a Knowledge Transfer Officer and Life Sciences Programme Tutor.
Her research focuses on novel materials for pathogen sample processing, biosensors, Raman spectroscopy, microfluidics, and nanoparticle toxicity. Collaborations include projects with Prof. Mark Bradley (Edinburgh), Dr. Will Shu (IB3), and EU-funded initiatives like Aquavalens (38 partners).
Key achievements include a British Science Association Media Fellowship (2012) and Heriot-Watt Crucible grants. Her work addresses UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean water and sanitation.
