Dr. Heinz Brandenburg is a Senior Lecturer in Politics at the University of Strathclyde's School of Government and Public Policy, where he has been employed since 2013. He holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin (2002) and previously taught at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the University of Aberdeen. From 2014-2023, he served as Director of Graduate Studies (Research) in the School.
His research examines:
- Electoral systems and political behavior
- Party politics and public opinion dynamics
- EU policy impacts on citizen identity
- Media framing during economic crises
- Political trust and representation metrics
His publications focus on comparative European politics, with recurring themes of democratic representation, policy congruence, and crisis-era political communication. Recent work analyzes EU cohesion policy effects and promise-keeping in governance.
He co-led the Horizon 2020 project 'The Impact of Cohesion Policy on EU Identification' (2016-2018), examining European identity formation across regions. He has supervised 4 graduate researchers and organizes academic conferences including the 2019 Elections, Public Opinion and Parties (EPOP) Annual Conference.
