Andrew Barclay

Dr. Andrew Barclay serves as a Lecturer in Politics within the Department of Politics and International Relations at the School of Sociological Studies, Politics and International Relations, University of Sheffield, having joined the institution in 2024 after holding academic positions at the University of Oxford and the University of Manchester.

His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Political Science awarded by the University of Manchester in 2021.

Barclay's research centers on political behavior and its intersection with social inequalities and identities, examining how these factors shape democratic engagement. His published work investigates religious and ethnic minority participation in politics, with specialized expertise in British Jewish politics. Current projects analyze connections between descriptive and substantive representation in policy networks and the influence of class identity on political attitudes, contributing to broader understandings of citizen participation in diverse democracies.

He actively participates in the School's research ecosystem through membership in the Empirical Politics Research Group and the Governance and Public Policy Research Group, while also serving as Programme Officer for the Elections, Public Opinion & Parties (EPOP) specialist group of the Political Studies Association.
