Heini Postila

Dr. Heini Postila is a Senior Research Fellow at the Water, Energy and Environmental Engineering Research Unit of the University of Oulu's Faculty of Technology. With 17 years of expertise in treatment wetlands and their purification efficiency, she focuses on hydrology and hydraulics in Nordic climate conditions, addressing runoff from peat extraction areas, mining, and municipal wastewater treatment plants.

• Research Interests: Treatment wetlands, nature-based solutions, seasonal water purification, passive hybrid systems, woodchip bioreactors, water/wastewater networks, peatlands hydrology, acid sulfate soils, greenhouse gas emissions from sewage sludge, and urban/forest runoff treatment.

Her work spans interdisciplinary topics in environmental technology, industrial wastewater treatment, and water resources engineering in northern regions. Current projects include HyMETLand and TypArkt, targeting nitrogen and heavy metal removal in Arctic conditions. Contact: heini.postila@oulu.fi
