Heike Omerzu serves as Professor of New Testament at the Department of Biblical Exegesis within the Faculty of Theology at the University of Copenhagen since 2009. Previously, she held positions including Junior Professor of New Testament at the Evangelical Theological Faculty, University of Mainz (2003-2009), and temporary professorships at the Universities of Münster and Munich.

Professor Omerzu's research centers on the Gospel of Mark, Acts of the Apostles, Christology, and Gender Studies within the context of Early Christianity. Her work examines New Testament texts through multiple lenses including the Greco-Roman context, Ancient Judaism, and contemporary hermeneutical approaches. She brings linguistic expertise in German, English, Danish, and several Nordic languages, plus ancient languages including Greek, Latin, and Hebrew to her textual analyses.
Her recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate continued scholarly productivity with a focus on Acts of the Apostles commentaries, Markan ethics, and political dimensions of the Gospels. These works reveal her consistent engagement with gender studies, early Christian community formation, and the socio-political context of New Testament writings. Her collaborative work with Ehrhardt-Rein on Acts commentaries represents a significant portion of her recent output.

Professor Omerzu maintains active scholarly engagement through editorial and organizational roles including serving as editor for New Testament Studies journal since 2021, co-organizing the Workshop on New Testament and Early Christian Literature (2019), and membership on several editorial boards including the Journal of Early Christian History. She has been a member of the Society of Biblical Literature since 2002 and the Society for New Testament Studies since 2010.
