Heidi Weiss, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. She serves as Chief of the Division of Cancer Biostatistics and Director of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource Facility (SRF) at the Markey Cancer Center. She is also a member of the Center for Computational Sciences and the Translational Oncology Research Program.
Her educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of South Carolina (1993), a Master of Science from Louisiana State University (1989), and a Bachelor of Science from the University of the Philippines (1985), followed by a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Alabama.
Dr. Weiss's research focuses on the design and analysis of early-phase clinical trials, particularly using Bayesian methods and interim monitoring. She also specializes in the statistical analysis of transgenic, xenograft, and chemically induced mouse models of cancer. Her work contributes to advancing cancer treatment and understanding metabolic and molecular mechanisms in oncology.
Her recent publications (2025) highlight her contributions to understanding microRNA regulation in intestinal cell dynamics, neurotensin's role in metabolic dysfunction and hepatic steatosis, and oxidative stress in leukemia. These studies reflect a strong interdisciplinary focus on cancer biology, metabolism, signaling pathways, and biostatistical innovation.
She is actively involved in multiple funded research projects with agencies such as the National Cancer Institute and Eli Lilly, demonstrating sustained scientific impact and leadership.
Dr. Weiss collaborates extensively with leading researchers in cancer biology and translational medicine. Her leadership in shared resources and clinical trial design underscores her critical role in supporting and advancing cancer research at the institutional and national levels.
