Heidi Waltz is a Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and German at the University of California, Riverside. Her academic career began with a B.A. in French from California State University, Fullerton (1984), followed by an M.A. in Linguistics (1986) and a Ph.D. in Indo-European Linguistics from UCLA (1993). Supported by a DAAD Scholarship, she transitioned from Heidelberg University in Germany to the U.S. for advanced studies.
Her research focuses on comparative-historical syntax, bilingualism, and language pedagogy. Key areas include Germanic syntax, Indo-European dialectology, and heritage language acquisition. She has contributed to understanding syntactic variation, verb morphology in Germanic languages, and pedagogical strategies for heritage speakers.
Her publications span from 1991 to 2006, emphasizing historical linguistics and applied language teaching. Notable works address Proto-Germanic syntax, emotion verbs in Germanic, and heritage language grammar. She has also delivered invited talks on language pedagogy and heritage speaker education.
Dr. Waltz's work bridges historical linguistic analysis with practical language-teaching methods, particularly for German strong verbs and heritage language learners. Her DAAD-supported scholarship highlights her transatlantic academic contributions.
